Apart from the diversity of the subjects handled by
him, Artist Murli Lahoti never hesitated in experimenting
with a variety of materials too. Apart from the conventional
oil colours on canvas, he has worked on gunny sacks on
plywood, sand and jute bags for the richness of texture.
He has worked intensively on metal embossing for murals,
low relief paintings of Plaster of Paris etc. He has
experimented with the collage style in both mono-print
technology as well as conventional type but in an innovative
manner.
Just like any mature Artist Murli Lahoti has tried working
with various art forms i.e. started with detailed figurative
paintings followed by form based paintings both irregular
forms as well as geometric forms and today in totally
abstract style as seen in Cosmic creation series. The
transition has been smooth and clearly noticed in his
works, many of his paintings also show blend of the two
or more of these aspects. The Artist has worked back
and forth and never hesitated to work in combination
of old and new.
Apart from all this Artist Murli Lahoti has always
stood up to his social commitments towards society
as a whole. Though he never joined any institution
as faculty but he kept on sharing his experience with
the students by giving demonstrations, guidance as
well as sharing his experience. For promotion of Art
in society he has been one of the main jury member
of the ‘Sakal International Child Art Competition’ since
last 7 years, where he interacts with the children
to increase their sensitivity and liking towards art.
Inspite of the age factor he has been acting as the
main pivotal member of the ‘National Painting
Competition and Exhibition’ held under the banner
of ‘Lokmanya Tilak’ Trust for last 8 years.
He has offered free copy rights of his paintings to
be produced as greetings to social institutions like
CRY (Child Relief & You), Concern India (for Cancer
Patients), ‘Umaed’ (for Mentally Challenged
People), etc. He has also donated paintings for gathering
funds through public auction to Rotary International
(for Polio Relief), Prime Minister’s Drought & Famine
Relief funds, Kargil War Relief Fund, etc.
